What’s Happening

SkyPop has launched a broad national retail expansion that includes Target, Walmart, Kroger, Albertsons, Safeway, CVS, and Gopuff, with Startup CPG calling it one of the fastest national expansions in modern soda. The rollout also follows the brand’s evolution into the SkyPop name as it pushes protein soda into more mainstream channels.

Target product listings add the clearest product details. SkyPop cans contain 10g of complete protein, 0g sugar, and 45 calories, and current Target flavor listings include Ice Pop, Peaches & Cream, and Strawberry Cotton Candy. Startup CPG also noted a broader lineup that includes Root Beer, Grape, Orange, Fruit Punch, and more.

Why It Matters

This is a meaningful retail jump because it helps validate protein soda as more than a niche DTC experiment. Modern soda has largely been dominated by gut-health messaging, but SkyPop is trying to build the category around an easier-to-understand functional benefit: protein.

It also gives protein another mainstream delivery format. A soda-style can with 10g of protein and 45 calories is much easier to explain to a general shopper than some of the more technical products in sports nutrition. That simplicity could be a big part of why the brand is landing such broad distribution.
