What's Happening

Share Aura has rolled out what it describes as its biggest update yet, transforming the fitness creation and tracking app into a more complete social platform for athletes. The new version introduces Stories, Explore, Profiles, and Aura Gear while maintaining the creative workout-sharing tools the app was originally built around.

Stories turns activities into social posts within Aura itself, giving users a new way to share runs, rides, and workouts directly with the community. Previously, much of Aura's experience centered around creating polished workout graphics that could then be shared to platforms like Instagram.

The new Explore experience lets users see friends' activities and discover other athletes, moving Aura further toward an actual fitness social network rather than simply functioning as a creation tool. Profiles provide users with a dedicated home for their active lives and give the new social features a central place to live.

Aura Gear is another major addition, allowing athletes to add and share the equipment they use. That gives users another layer of information around their activities beyond traditional workout statistics.

The social features build on an app that already allows athletes to connect tracking devices, sync activities, create graphics using more than 45 custom stat templates, and share their workouts across social media. Aura has also developed its own in-app run and ride tracking capabilities, including its camera-focused tracking experience.

Why It Matters

Share Aura originally differentiated itself by focusing on how workouts are presented and shared rather than simply recording the activity. The Social Update significantly expands that concept by giving those activities somewhere to live inside Aura itself instead of requiring users to immediately take their creations to another social platform.

Adding discovery, profiles, Stories, and gear also gives Aura more opportunities to keep athletes inside the app after a workout is finished. That changes the product from primarily a fitness creation utility into a platform that can potentially support ongoing interaction between users, while its existing visual tools remain a key differentiator.

Bigger Picture

Social fitness continues to evolve beyond basic leaderboards and activity feeds. Athletes increasingly want platforms that combine tracking with storytelling, creativity, community, and discovery, particularly as sharing training has become a major part of running, cycling, and broader fitness culture.

Aura's Social Update puts the app more directly into that space. Instead of only helping users make their Garmin, Apple Watch, or other activity data look better when shared elsewhere, Aura is now building its own social layer around those workouts. If that ecosystem continues expanding, the app's role could increasingly sit at the intersection of fitness tracking, creative tools, and athlete-focused social media.
