Kraft Mac & Cheese has introduced PowerMac, a new line that delivers 17g of protein and 6g of fiber per serving while keeping the same core comfort-food positioning as the original. Kraft says the product is launching in Original and White Cheddar and is set for a nationwide rollout in April 2026.

The company is not pitching this as a hardcore fitness product. Instead, PowerMac is framed as a more nutritious version of a familiar pantry staple. That distinction matters. Kraft is trying to modernize a beloved product, not replace it.

Why It Matters

This is exactly the type of move legacy food brands are making as macro awareness continues to go mainstream. Protein has become a shopping shortcut for value, and fiber is increasingly riding alongside it as shoppers pay more attention to satiety and digestive health. Kraft is combining both inside a format people already know they like.

There is also a broader accessibility angle here. A protein cereal or specialty frozen meal may still feel niche to a lot of households. Mac and cheese does not. That makes PowerMac a potentially bigger bridge product between mainstream grocery and functional food.

Bigger Picture

The companies with the most upside may not be the ones inventing entirely new categories. They may be the ones upgrading the foods people already buy every week. PowerMac looks like a direct example of that strategy: keep the comfort, improve the panel, and make the transition feel effortless.
