What’s Happening
GHOST has officially expanded its Yoo-hoo Protein Drink nationwide through Walmart, bringing the highly anticipated ready-to-drink collaboration to a much larger retail audience.
The shake recreates the classic chocolate profile associated with Yoo-hoo while transforming it into a high-protein ready-to-drink product. Each can delivers 25 grams of protein from ultra-filtered milk with 120 calories and 2 grams of sugar. The product is also lactose-free.
The nationwide rollout follows an earlier pilot release that gave consumers an initial opportunity to try the collaboration before its broader retail debut. The early pilot was explicitly labeled as a test batch, making the Walmart expansion the major next step for the product.
Walmart now lists the GHOST Yoo-hoo Protein Ready to Drink in an 11 fl oz single-can format, with the product appearing across the retailer’s GHOST protein assortment.
The rollout also marks GHOST’s return to the ready-to-drink protein category with a significantly different approach centered around licensed flavor collaborations and ultra-filtered milk. Instead of launching with a conventional chocolate shake, the company is using the recognizable Yoo-hoo name and flavor profile to differentiate the product from traditional RTD proteins.
Why It Matters
Ready-to-drink protein continues to move deeper into mainstream retail as consumers look for convenient ways to increase protein intake without mixing powders or carrying shaker bottles. Walmart gives GHOST access to a significantly broader audience than a specialty supplement or direct-to-consumer launch, putting the product in front of everyday grocery and wellness shoppers.
The Yoo-hoo partnership also gives GHOST a powerful point of differentiation in a crowded category. Protein shakes frequently compete around similar macros, so recognizable flavors and established food brands can help products stand out while making sports nutrition more approachable to consumers who may not typically purchase supplements.
Bigger Picture
The RTD protein category is increasingly starting to resemble mainstream food and beverage rather than traditional sports nutrition. Brands are investing in better taste, convenient packaging, nostalgic collaborations, and mass retail distribution as protein becomes an everyday nutritional priority for a much wider group of consumers.
For GHOST, the nationwide Walmart rollout shows how licensed collaborations can extend beyond protein powders and energy drinks into entirely new formats. If recognizable food and beverage partnerships continue migrating into RTD protein, the category could become another major battleground for brands looking to combine functional nutrition with familiar consumer experiences.
