Eating healthy is hard. Add in a specific diet or food allergy, and it’s damn near impossible.

In my case, I struggle with both. I’m crazy about ingredients from a health perspective, but I also have to be diligent about what I eat thanks to chronic migraines that are triggered by certain foods and additives like MSG, soy, and nuts.

At this point in my life, I’d practically given up on finding a healthy, protein-packed snack that I could take on the go. Almost all jerkies have some sort of “smoked flavor” added in, or worse, MSG. Literally every single protein bar on the face of the planet has chocolate, nuts, or artificial sweeteners like sucralose – all of which I’m allergic to. Okay, I’m not allergic to sucralose, but I might as well be.

Suffice it to say, protein-packed, travel-friendly snacks have been non-existent for me. But I’m pleased to say that this sad time in my life has come to an end.

Enter Wild Zora, a snack brand founded by Zora Tabin in 2012. Now when I say “snack brand,” I don’t mean “snacks” like you would typically think. No, these are actually healthy – packed with protein, real ingredients, and no added sugar, Zora’s bars are as close to eating a home-cooked meal as you can get on the go.

The company was created after Zora, a native of the Czech Republic and granddaughter of local farmers, moved to America and realized all our “healthy snacks” here are filled with sugar and really don’t offer much in terms of protein or nutrition. Seriously, have you ever read the macros on the back of most “protein” bars you’d find in the grocery store? It’s scary.

Zora took matters into her own hands, creating a line of bars, soups, quinoa mixes, and paleo meals to go – all with the mission of creating easy-to-transport snacks that offered real nutritional value. I recently got the chance to try a few of their products out, and wanted to share what I thought:

Wild Zora Meat & Veggie Bar, $3.05/bar

We’ve already established that I’m a little over-the-top when it comes to what I will and won’t eat, so if I actually like something AND recommend it – you know it’s good. These bars are just that: good tasting, and genuinely good for you. They’re made with all natural meats and spices, and include no gluten, soy, nuts, milk or even nightshades. They also don’t include any added sugar, so they won’t spike your blood sugar, and cause a rush or crash. They come in a handful of different flavors including the best-selling Mediterranean Lamb, Italian Beef, Apple Pork, Curry Turkey and BBQ Beef.

These bars sort of resemble a jerky, but are a lot softer, which I love because sometimes eating jerky is like chewing rubber. These definitely don’t have that quality. They’re perfect for tossing in your gym bag, suitcase, or just keeping around the house for a healthy, easy snack.

Wild Zora Paleo Meals to Go, $9.95/pack

If bars aren’t your thing, these Paleo Meals to Go are an awesome alternative. Again, they feature no unwanted ingredients like dairy, gluten, nuts, and soy, plus no added sugar. They also pack a ton of protein per serving, with the Summit Savory Chicken (shown above) at a whopping 29 grams per serving (some feature less protein per serving, but all have at least 10g). All you have to do to eat them is add hot water and enjoy right from the pouch. They’re honestly quite filling, so you can even treat these as full-blown meals if you aren’t in the mood to cook.

With seven different flavors including Palisade Pineapple Mango, Cliffside Coconut Berry, and Mountain Beef Stew, there’s something for every sweet or savory palette. I will note, though, that a few of these do contain nuts, so if you have an allergy, just make sure to choose a nut-free option.

Wild Zora Grain-Free Cereal, $2.59/pack

I love a good packet of oatmeal when I’m traveling or before a workout. What I don’t love, though, is the excessive amount of added sugar per packet. Let’s be honest, your typical pack of quick oats is thought to be “healthy,” but it really offers next to nothing in terms of nutritional value. These instant cereal packs, on the other hand, contain ingredients like fresh-milled, organic flaxseed that provide fiber and protein, plus real fruit and nothing artificial. Again, for those allergic to nuts, be warned they are included here. The Blueberry Muffin option just has sliced almonds so if you’re like me and can simply pick the nuts out, you’re good to go. The other flavors, however, are made with almond flour, so do be aware of that.

Other than that, they’re a slam dunk for me. They’re not super sweet like your regular oats, but that’s honestly a plus in my book. Flavors include Apple Pie, Carrot Cake, Tropical Tart, Blueberry Muffin, and Banana Bread.

In full transparency, we did partner with Wild Zora to create this article, but I will absolutely be buying these snacks in the future. I wouldn’t eat snacks or products if I didn’t feel comfortable with the ingredients, even if it was for a partnership. With that said, I feel more than comfortable giving these our stamp of approval.

They’re not only delicious, but they’ve filled the void in healthy, portable snacks in my life. So whether you’re a picky eater, suffer from food allergies, or want something healthy and easy to take to the gym, on a hike, or on a plane, Wild Zora’s full lineup of snacks free from chemicals, refined sugars, and nasty ingredients is where it’s at.

Shop their entire lineup of products here, and use code Headlines10 for 10% off any 10-pack of bars, plus free shipping on orders over $99.
